the picture is a bit darker than the coin actually is. i bought it raw and NGC holdered it as MS62. the coin was obviously a DMPL at birth and now the devices are a bit dark and the mirrors circle them with lovely rainbows.

though i often criticize Morgans---good naturedly, of course---as Bullion Coins, i have a soft spot for the 1878 issues.

I have a " 78-S " Trade, Morgan, and Ike! The Ike is toned brown on both sides.

I don't think I have ever seen such an impressive group of toned 78-s coins. Tough date for color, as are any of the 78's.
