1894 and 1889cc

I got these back from ANACS in body bags with a note attached 1894 cleaned net EF40 1889cc rim filed net VF20. My question is if I were to sell these coins I would list there problems but could I expect net money ,or how would one determine the value of .

Are you sure you got body bags from ANACS? The only coins they body bag are those that are not genuine, or have PVC contamination.
  • No I call it a bb I had the coin shop send them in for me ,he said he has a man that sends hundreds of coins to ANACS and they wouldn't charge if the coins had problems and I didn't have them slabed. They came back in a plastic sleave inside a mylar flip. with a lable on the flip hand writen cleaned net 40 on one and rim filed net20.

Those are 2 very tough dates. I wouldn't worry too much about the price, they will probably sell very close to grade, maybe just a little less, even with the problems.

  • The purpose I think of net grading is to: 1) honestly cerify the coins impairment(s) to the buyer and, 2) Give the seller a ballpark idea of the real market value. However, these are key dates and very expensive so the net grade is very subjective. Right now the values of these type coins is much closer to their original technical grade before they were altered. It's not a question of "well what is the net grade and now I'll look up the price and sell it for a little more". You really have to find a buyer that needs these dates and is willing to compromise quality to get one because they aren't willing to pay a ton for an original coin. IMHO, now is the time to sell your secondary holdings because the market is hot. I've used the Anacs net graded feature and got really much much more than expected auctioning through Heritagecoin.com to a giant competing national audience.

I agree... they both will probably sell for more than their "net grade" level prices.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Hi Becky do you mean the net grade I would guess net grade would be because of the problems. On the bright side I did get the 1895 s/s vam 4 in a slab EF45.I posted a pic of it last night along with this question with little response so I thought I would try again.

No, not the net grade, the technical grade. I know that they will sell for more than the net, probably close, but not full for the technical grade. You bought 2 key date Morgans with problems....there are a bunch of people who would be more than happy to buy 2 key date Morgans with problems. IMHO, but I bet I'm rightimage
