Gorgeous coin., I think what appears to be some rub on the hair is actually poor detail from a weak strike.

  • The obverse looks looks like some MS-65's I've seen in NGC holders. Pretty color and correct NT sequence. How's the Eagles wings for marks and strike?

  • MS-64 seems a bit harsh IMO, looks like a solid MS-65 all day!

  • I honestly don't know Peace Dollars that well, but the reverse has a few too many dings for me to go 65 there. Assuming that there's no wear to the high points (I ask after seeing reverse), which I see rotating a coin in hand, I still think the obverse "carries" the coin to a 65. I assume there's a trick to this question. Still, based on the pict.'s it sure LOOKS gemmy, and interesting toning to boot.

I really didnt expect to have such a good coin when I bought it.....i just wanted a nice toned peace, which i thought would add to my type set of BU coins. I have seen worse coins in 63 holders for sure............

Will reveal grade in a little while

  • Send it back in to whatever service it's not in now. Unless I'm missing hairlines, that's a minimum 64 IMHO. Your first instinct on a coin is often right and it's just too clean and original to be only MS-63. image

Something is off in my opinion...I may just have to join PCGS and submit this puppy. Oh yeah, how old is this slab?

  • Interesting coin but there are way too many small marks for a grade of 64 or 65 as some posters are speculating. If it's not a slider I would have to call it MS60+ which means 60 or 61 at best. If the grade is any higher than that don't take the recommendation that was given to crack it out. Not saying it's a bad coin, just that I feel many of the opinions given were very optomistic.

Edited to add that the grade was posted while I was typing. image

That looks like one of there newer slabs, and NGC has been much harder on dollars with this type of toning lately IMHO. My guess is that they don't like the toning breaks on the cheek it makes it look kinda funky and maybe the luster is not nice enough, maybe hairlined or baggy too.
I have recieved some harsh grades from them lately.

The reverse is baggy, but the obverse should carry her to 63 at least. I have never cracked a coin and resubmitted, I have cracked several coins for albums.

Well into the shoe box she goes and the semi annual looks see will do fine for me.

    /thanks for all the input.

Easy crossover to 64. , not so much for the nominal increase in value, but a coin with that kind of color, deserves a loftier grade.
