Errors in attributing Bust Halves by the grading services

Recently, I have seen many errors by PCGS and NGC in correctly placing on the insert the variety due both early and bust halves. Maybe I am just looking for the first time. I would like to hear from others their experience.

Most inserts do not have Overton numbers, but dates like 1806 knob 6 sm stars should be easy enough. Also, 1819/8 large or small 9, 1820 Sq 2 Lg date ( knob or no knob).

When you discover an incorrect label, will the service re-holder and attribute without charge? Also, what is the customary charge to attribute by Overton an unattributed coin?

Thanks

  • PCGS doesn't designate by Overton number, just Red Book varities. For NGC, it costs $7 plus the regular grading fee for them to put the attribution on the label. I would also bet, that the attributers probally aren't always specialists, and prone to mistakes. Even specialists make mistakes too, sometimes image
