SGC 100 vs. BGS 10 which would you prefer?

Within the last couple months, I've actually acquired
a total of 8 SGC 100 pristine grades (4) from submission, and (4)
were cross-overs from GAI 10 perfect.
Would a BGS 10 still command more than an SGC 100 of the same
card you think? IMO, it would be hard to say since pristine grades
don't show up that much, at least not an SGC 100 anyways. BGS is pumping out more and more. If you had a choice, which would you
take?

  • im sorry this is off your topic....... But I have a Brodeur rookie card its ungraded but is in mint condition if you want ill send it in and have it graded and if it comes out a 10 like i believe it would (in my opinion of course) i would be more than happy to offer it to you for a reasonable price. Please email me at ModernCards@CardChark.Com if you think you maybe intrested in taking a look at it.

    thanks

  • BGS 10's sed to be almost non-existant. Sellers used to get so much money for them. Now BGS hands them out like PSA hands out 10's. I feel sorry for the poor sucker that paid $700 - $800 for an Allen Iverson BGS 10 Topps rookie. I think it was that card, I wonder how much that is worth now? Now to your question, definately the SGC 100 because I don't do BGS ever since they came out with BCCG.
Culpepper to ?, only God knows at this point!

    I'd go with the SGC100.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • My focus is on '75 Topps - so definitely SGC 100.

If I were selling a modern card, then definitely the BGS 10.

What cards did you get SGC 100s on? That always seemed like the top grade in the hobby to me. I haven't seen very many but the ones I have seen were virtually flawless. Anyway, I agree with Dallas. If you've got a 2004 Bowman Chrome rookie card in BGS 10, it would probably get more than a SGC 100. A SGC 100 1973 Schmidt rookie would probably be more than a BGS 10. Not that it's necessarily a better grade, but there is a lot of suspicion regarding BGS's scrutiny of vintage cards.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay

Here is another vote for SGC 100. My main reason is that Beckett's grading service seems to be under a lot of scrutiny lately and may be headed down hill fast. SGC, although a notch below PSA in popularity, has maintained and continues to maintain its reputation and standing amongst collectors.

I don't know about SGC vs. BGS, but I'd rather have PSA 8 or 9 vintage than anything 10 or 100 that came from a pack bought in Wal-Mart in the past couple years. No idea what EagleEye's SGC 100's are, but just a general question about new cards ... Aren't they supposed to be perfect?
  • I, like helionaut, would love to see those SGC 100's.

It must be the black background, but the couple I have seen in person just scream at you...of course, so does a PSA 10!

It's been discussed before, but I think Beckett's rep. took a big "nosedive" with many collectors, when we finally found-out what BCCG was all about.

JMO, but it would significantly improve their image to drop that crap line of grading.

I'm trying to be neutral here, as I have used all 4 major services for my collection.

I mainly do hockey and the ones I got back were modern hockey. They'll stay my collection, at least for now anyways. Actually only have 7. I counted wrong. 6 are foil cards. Thanks for the input.

  • Those cards look nice EEK - black border brings them out!

I just can't get used to that green flip though - geez!

SGC for sure.. Much nicer holder and 100's are so very rare to find.

I prefer SGC over BGS, but if you ever intend to resell your modern cards, te BGS 10 will sell for more than the SGC 100.
  • It all depends on the card. Most of the BGS 10's you see are on modern cards that have no production flaws or to major dealers who submit in a ton of stuff.

<< <i>Now BGS hands them out like PSA hands out 10's. >>

That statement is total BS....it's one of the hardest grades to get.

My vote goes to BGS over SGC....

  • What's the oldest card that's been graded a SGC 100?

I remember seeing a Walter Payton RC that was a SGC 100.....edges looked mighty sharp for a card that old.
