Bueller? Anybody?

Even before this fantastic baseball postseason, the NHL work stoppage barely registered a blip on the U.S. sporting consciousness. Now the league seems more irrelevant than ever. I hate to say it, but the harm the league and players' union have inflicted on the NHL may be irreperable.

it's funny you mention that because it sure seems true. I haven't heard hardly a thing about it but while I was in Canada last month for a week there was always at least some update or news on it on the radio each hour.
  • I noticed this too. I remember how the baseball, football, and basketball strikes and the threat of strikes/lockouts within the last 20 years got all sorts of coverage on national and local news. With the current NHL situation, there's barely a peep.

When the NBA had their strike/lockout a few years ago, the Los Angeles area media had all sorts of stories and updates about the strike, most of which centered around the Lakers. One local paper even had an analysis of the local economic impact as a result of the lack of Lakers games. Since the NHL lockout was announced, I have not seen anything in the media about the LA Kings or the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

  • A poll in Canada showed 85% of the people
    are against the players.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Hockey has certainly given itself a self-inflicted wound.

Personally I would never quit a job that I loved to do
that paid me over 100,000.00 a year. I'm sure a lot
of players are p*ssed off at their union.

Also, no reason for the news to cover it.
If the players and owners don't want to play,
then the press should ignore them.
  • Hockey...image...less than 3% of America cares! Their fans seem to also be Nascar redknecks fans.
