I made up a spreadsheet about 9 months ago from auction prices to see if some AU's were actually better investments than so-called investment grade Morgans. It died with my computer but memory is only 4 AU's did better than the top 15 rarest as listed in VAM Encyclopedia over 3 years. The 1894, 1893-S, 1892-S and another one did better compared to most of the more "common" dates in either AU or Unc (unless DMPL) by a wide margin if memory serves. At a minimum, comparing AU's to AU's, these three doubled to tripled in value but the most common 60 Morgans haven't done this in part owing to the high transaction costs plus grading fees eating up a lot of profit as a percentage of gross sale price. Of course if sold on Ebay raw verses Heritage, et. al. this is not the complete story at all.

The other au going up was probably the `95-0.

I think it is tough to find a nice `93-s in au at greysheet bid or ask.

Yes, I think Lava's picked the other one (1895-O). The 1893-S was so heavily promoted and "cleaned-up" before the major services started grading, its a genuine challenge to find an example with original old natural surfaces. Just throw bid/ask out the window on any natural one in anything from VF to AU.
