Question About Selling Problems Through Paypal

Hello,
I am asking for help from those of you who have sold on EBay and had a problem customer who used PayPal. Basically I would like to know how PayPal tends to favor problem selling situations? (ie. do they tend to agree with sellers who have a good track record?).
Long story short, I have a customer who purchased a coin, Buy It Now, where I payed for S + H and Ins. The customer asked me for a tracking number, which I didn't get because it would have required express mail @ $14 additonal. I now realize that all they wanted was a delivery confirmation, but that is not what they asked for. Any way, I emailed the customer to tell them that I shipped the coin, and then they immediately demanded their money back for no tracking #. Then they went to PayPal and filed a complaint saying that they didn't receive it / wasn't as described in the original ad, now mind you it was still at my post office as this guy filed the complaint. I tried to resolve the issue, I asked him to send the coin back and then I would release his money. He has yet to respond to my emails stating whether or not he even got the coin. I have many good arguments in my defense, such as my sales record, replies from other customers, the tracking number issue, the fact that I tried to resolve this in a reasonable way, and the bottom line that I feel like he is trying to scam me.
Any of you had similar situations? Any advice to help me out?
Thanks,
Dave

If the package has been delivered then you are probably in trouble as PayPal will side with the person sending the money over the person recieving almost every time from what ive seen / heard in the trade. Furthermore Paypal may freeze your account so you cant get other moneys out of it while the disputed claim is under investigation.
We had a package we shipped to a new customer for $5500 in August to NY and after 7 days our bank said the check had cleared and on the 12th day they told us it bounced. We contacted our local postoffice and they called the postoffice in NY and to our luck the package had just got there that day and was removed from the delivery truck and returned to us. Coincidentally it took 5 days to get the package to NY and only 1 day to return it to us.
Dont wait and let the package get delivered, the customer buying the coin and sending a complaint the day you shipped it is a clear sign that he/she is up to no good and without taking action im betting you are gonna get left without any $ and no coin.
Best of luck
Andrew

PP only cares about electronic delivery confirmation so you might have a struggle with them.
Assuming the coin is worth more than $50 and you have a blue insurance receipt, they will have to sign for the package.
Your post office should be able to track the insurance article number and see if it was delivered or not. If it was you should be able to obtain the signature and with that, I would explain to PayPal he is trying to commit postal and wire fraud and ask them to make filing an insurance claim as a condition of a PayPal refund.
But without delivery confirmation to a confirmed address, you are not covered by their policy.
Good luck and keep us posted.

<< <i>If the package is still in transit i would recommend you contact your locak post office and have the package returned to you. >>
Once it is in the system, the sender can't get it back - unless it is undeliverable as addressed to the buyer, then they will send it back to the return address, or if none, to the dead letter office and open it up and see if the shipper can be identified.

With Signature Confirmation (Pink Slip) the person has to show the postal employee their ID before they sign for it and the package is released ... You can track it on the USPS web site.
With Insurance (Blue Slip) the package can be tracked but you either have to go to the Post Office or call the USPS. Once again the person must Show ID and sign for the package before the Post Office releases package.
With the Blue Slip Insurance you can combine either the Green Slip or the Pink Slip and be able to track your package on the USPS web site ...
With the Blue Slip & Green Slip if there a problem you can go to the Post Office and get a copy of who signed for it.
With the Blue Slip & Pink Slip if there is a problem you can view who signed for it on the USPS web site. This is a little redundant but it saves you a trip to the Post Office is there is a problem ..
You to your paypal account, click the transaction's "details" page and it will tell you if it is eligible for the seller protection program. If so, according to paypal you only need to show that you shipped to the confirmed address and that it was delivered.
As previously said, with insurance this should not be a difficult matter. If the post office cannot confirm delivery, then you put a claim in for the insurance as the buyer is claimed non-delivery. If the buyer is lying - he will have to take that up with the postal inspectors who will likely not be amused.
Go to the paypal page and read up on the seller policies. If buyer did not have a confirmed address, or you shipped to an address other than a confirmed address you may be hosed.
Paypal gives you an option on your preferences page to decline payments from non-confirmed buyers. That is why. That is also why it might be a good idea to state right in an auction listing that you only accept paypal from confirmed buyers and that you only ship to the confirmed address. If somone asks you ship to an address other than their confirmed address it is a possible indicator that they may have ill intentions.
Good luck !
