Gem Mint Topps Bobby Orr RC......

Yea....I couldn't believe when I saw the auction for a Gem Mint Topps Bobby Orr RC. Yea it's BVG/BGS but wow is that ever a nice card. That's probably one of the hardest cards to get in high grade due to chipping, centering and basically anything you can think that can go wrong with a card.

Why such shady terms on the auction though? Private bidder, cashier's check or money order only...

It is a gorgeous card though. Hope it hasn't been trimmed to make it that nice.

any card over 10k is going to ask for a cashiers check or bank transfer. the reason for the private auction is that it's cut from a sheet and he doesn't want anyone contacting his bidders and letting them know
  • I've noticed that any old cards that are all four categories 9.5 in a BVG holder, they are sheet cut. Maybe BVG doesn't feel right giving them a 10 because they know it's a sheet cut. You try to send that card to PSA, it will come back evidence of trimming.
  • I bet cards have passed through PSA that are cut too......I think the card is beautiful and would rise in value in any holder. The card looks like it just came out of a pack.....

vince , not even going to get in this debate but would like to say a few things. yes there are a few cards taht have made it through psa that are sheet cut. any bvg vintage hockey card (and recently baseball from all the mastro sheets) is most likely from a sheet , big difference. yes the card looks like it just came out of a pack but it didn't . came off the assembly line last month. the reason vintage cards in high grade are worth so much is that they are gorgeous when the techniques of the day did not allow them to be. to pay for a vintage card cut wiith modern techniques, does not make much sense imo.

oh yeah , he must have a ton of packs because this will not be the last bvg 9.5 orr rookie you will see from him.
  • Isn't this the 2nd auction for an Orr rookie in BVG 9 in recent weeks? Didn't the last one go for $11,000+?

the last one was pulled before it ended. I read somewhere that it was sold privately but the buyer backed out which is why it is back. once it sells , we can see the next one that will be a 1 of2.
  • Vincecarder,

If you know this kardking guy, please tell him not
to advertise a card 1/1 when he's got two others
waiting in the wings in the same grade.

A PSA 8 Bobby Orr rookie is a diamond.
A BVG 9.5 Bobby Orr rookie is a cubic zirconia

As far as your investment statement, I doubt it.

Tripoli........The kardking was going to sell the first one
off of ebay for 20,000.00...........until the buyer was convinced
about the facts of the card. Some guy cost the kardking over
    5 grand. WOW !

    packcollector,

Does this mean that the cards just came off the printing presses? Or do you you mean that they were just recently cut from the sheets sold by Mastro?

Koby , yes , I meant they were cut up from the sheets sold in the last 2 mastro auctions
