  • Don't imagine that we will ever see Leon here. At best, one of his dozens of employees. I had the pleasure of sitting with Leon every Tuesday for 4 years, and buying coins. Super person but much to busy for a forum. If anyone ever gets a chance to visit Silvertowne it is worth the trip. Very impressive place with the largest crystal chandelier that you will ever see. And more coins than you can ever dream of. At one time I needed a 95 Morgan to complete a set. I ask if he could get me one. 5 minutes later he lays 11 in front of me to choose from.

    Hey Grandad where is Silvertowne?
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

Unless he's moved, he's right off hwy 27 on the north side of town.

    It's definitely worth the trip.

A lot of modern dealers do post here but, unfortunately, most have only a few posts.

There are dozens of big dealers, old time collectors, researchers, and sundry other ex-
perts who'd be most welcome to see. Perhaps in time...

  • 27 is the north-south route, 32 is the east-west route. They intersect in Winchester. If you get to Winchester, everyone can direct you to Silvertowne.
  • Dr Michael Fey and John Maben to add a couple more names to the list. These two maybe too busy too to post here regularly as well.image

You left out a few dealers whose last names end in gin:

Maybe they all post to a secret dealer board where COLLECTORS take the lion's share of the abuse image

I believe Jim Halperin has posted here.

Jim Barlow of "The Kennedy Center". You only think you know Kennedies and Ikes 'till you talk with Jim.

I sure wish he'd reconsider and post here.

Leon Henderickson is a dealer who I've bought coins from since the 1960's - a great guy to buy coins from, fair and honest; and he's forgotten more about coins than most of us will ever know - I once bought 10 proof gold $2 1/2 Liberties from him - they were still wrapped in the original mint paper inside brown 2 x 2 envelopes! If you happened to be by Leon's table when he had just bought something neat - he'd "flip" it to for a very small and fair profit. I don't know if Leon does much personally on the internet, but if you see him at a major show - look at his coins - it's an eclectic mix of everything & there's often some great bargains to be found - He buys and sells coins! Leon is known as someone who will buy almost anything numismatic - but if it's something that's quite common or hard to sell he buys it at a "price" where he feels he can sell it and make a small profit - sometimes that price is less than greysheet. I once was at his table when someone come by with some rather common and not particularly saleable coins - Leon lookes the coins over and made an offer - the person didn't like Leon's offer and began to argue with Leon - now if you know Leon, he's a very softspoken gentleman who goes out of his way to be polite - Finally the "seller" asked to see a greysheet - he turned to the page where several of the coins were listed pointed to a line - stuck the greysheet in Leon's face and angrily said - "You offered me $50 for this coin and grey sheet BID is $55! Leon reached over, took the greysheet - Looked at it and said "You're right, . . . sell it to the greysheet"

After this obnoxious customer left, Leon looked over at me and smiled and said: "The greysheet doesn't buy coins, I DO!"

  • Leon is good people and I like most of the people he has working for him as well. Silvertowne is only 18 miles south of me but I've only been down to his place twice. Can't say I've ever noticed the chandalier. I don't normally do business with them because they just don't have anything I can use. Did get a lot of early cash pieces from them last year though.

As a Morgan fanatic, Wayne is a godlike figure to me. Talked to him once on the phone as I called his shop looking for a coin...it was almost a religious experience.
  • Isn't Silvertowne the "behind the scenes" dealer who supplies most of the coins to "The Coin Vault"????
  • orevilleoreville Posts: 11,953 ✭✭✭✭✭
Clevegreg: Indeed. But he is also a "behind the scenes" dealer that supplies most rolls to many dealers and collectors alike all over the world.

I have dealt with him nearly longer than any dealer I know. He used to have lots of BU rolls from the 20's, 30's and 40's. Even his inventory has dried up.

No. Not really. There are quite a few dealers who specialize in this market and
Silvertowne does move a large amount of material, but, so far as I know, most of
it is retail to a large audience. They advertise nationwide and send out catalogs.
They are one of a mere handfull of web sites that maintains a selection of mint
    and proof sets.

TV coin sales is at least a small part of many dealers sales.
