late 60s early 70s topps cards

hi all,

my neighbor came to me last night (we collected cards together back in the 60s and 70s) wanting to sell his "left over" cards. i've seen these cards many times (as a kid and recently). whenever he needed money in the past, hes come to me to "unload" to get spending money. the ryan rookies, mantles, etc are long gone, there are no PSA 8s, but the aarons and mays yaz cards are there, all raw, all in shoe boxes.

i told him to separate the hofers from the has beens, separate them by year and count how many of each year there are before we do anything. hes been layed off now for 4 months, unemployment is running out, hes getting desperate .

personally, i'm not into these years any more, but wanted to get a "feel" for interest here before doing anything. hes busy this week, but plans on doing what i told him to do with them early next week. i'm guessing theres a couple of hundred cards (600-800 maybe?) from years 67 (maybe 68 is the first year) up to early 70s. he did tell me he wants to unload them all. i'm thinking ebay for some of the stars, but know these commons would be a pain to unload...and maybe for the right amount of $$$$ i could talk him into selling them all in one clean swoop.

any help or advice is appreciated, i'm easy to get along with and so is he. thanks in advance, keith

  • If you are in a densely populated area it might be worth dragging a sample of the cards to a local cardshop, or an upcoming card show. That might at least give you anidea of what minimum to set for ebay. List them on every card trading site you know. there are a goodly number of vintage collectors and not all of them require high gradeable cards, particularly in commons.
