Quality coin photography and numismatic microphotography are fast becoming a hobby within a hobby. Its far more difficult than it looks.
  • I know, I've seen a lot of coin pictures in my lifetime. They are really getting better!!

    It's board member Photoman.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I agree, coin photography can be a lot of fun, there are some coins I have bought just because I've wanted to photograph them. When I see really nice coin photos I appreciate how difficult it is when I try to take shots like them and end up wanting to pull my hair out!

Doug Plasencia is our photographer, and he posts here under "Photoman." I am his assistant.

All the work you see in our catalogues is his doing. He shoots every coin and works them up (size, crop, etc) for print. I take his photos and work them up for the photos you see on our website, but he's already done the hard part. We know he's wonderful but we like to keep it on the DL- don't want him getting a fat head or anything! (Ha ha! He knows how much we love him.)
