Could this 89P Jeff go 6FS?

JRoccoJRocco Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭✭
There is a hit on the far left under the first column between the 5th and 6th steps. Would this hold this Jeff to 5FS or could it go 6FS.

Both Jeffs are clearly FS and would get the attribute from both TPGs. NGC however, may not give them the 6FS or they may give them the 6FS---just depends on the grader that sees them on any given day.

I've seen both services holdered Jeffs with FS and weren't, and visa versa, but NGC is generally more strict.

    Nice CUs by the way!

  • 100% FS with 5 steps. Like you point out I think it is precluded from 6 step designation. The coin however looks AU to me.
  • It looks FS to me, I think they'd grade it as such.

Thanks for the replies. This year is hard in 5 FS, but really tough in 6FS. That is why I was asking. Thanks again.

1989-P isn't a very difficult issue to find in FS. it is, however, difficult to find in grades higher than MS64FS. as Clack pointed out, your coin looks rather beat up and i can only imagine what the obverse looks like. i have an MS66FS example and seem to find many well struck coins starting in 1987. if the coin is AU as speculated, you can forget about the step designation.

  • Keets is right. The 89P is one of the easiest to find in FS of any coin up to 1996. PCGS doesn't distinguish between 5 and 6 steps, though, so it would get simply a FS designation if it's not AU. I would give it at best a 63FS (judging only from the reverse) and so it's not worth sending in.

Thanks for the reply Al. The coin is not pristine, but looks like it may go 6 step not the more usual 5 step. Here is the coin. Would there be any premium for a coin like this if it would go 6 step? Or is just a nickel? Thanks in advance guys.
