Where's the Honesty in Sports? I'm Speaking of Arod and Matsui

First, Matsui clearly saw that it was a home run - not a double - but does he say anything? No, he watches the umps convene for several minutes then get the call right.

Several innings later, Arod drops down about 50 notches in my book - intentionally slapping the ball away then miming to the ump that that's the way he runs. Unbelievable. Isn't that called cheating? To me, that's not much different than Sammy's corked bat. To make matters worse, his actions and the resulting call reversal almost incite a riot in the stadium.

I know I'm being a little idealistic, but things I couldn't get away with on the playground shouldn't be condoned in the major leagues.

  • Almost everybody trys to sell their play to the umps. That's part of the game. I don't think you can expect any outfielder to tell the umps that the opposing team hit a homer. Let the umps figure it out. Anyway they got both plays right.

I agree with you on Arod.He acted like a football player, trying to force a fumble. I have no problem with Matsui. It was nice to see the Umpires got both calls right.

I like Matsui, and I root against Arod. Both players didn't do anything wrong in my opinion. One tried to playoff a homer, and one acted on instinct. Arod crying about it after it was reversed was funny.
