? on End of Pain conders

I bid on this one over the weekend and ran out of time upping the bid (came in 2nd, going against a automated sniper image ). That's probably the neatest variety I've seen yet. Can anyone with a book tell me the list value for it, just out of curiosity?

That's not my main question though.. How many varieties are there of the Paine puns? If someone has time can you provide a rundown of the different ones and rough values or is there a website out there with this info already? I'd like to get one for my Granddad, a history teacher.

Sorry to be a pain, I don't have any of the appropriate catalogs. Thanks!

Real quick, I counted 17. That's not to mention the Farthing size though . Spence tokens are going up in price and nice grades are getting quite pricey depending on the token. I've paid anywhere from the mid $100 to $400 for some of my higher grades.

  • The "End of Pain" tokens come on both halfpennys and farthings. There are 12 different die varieties and 6 edge varieties of half pennys, and 7 die varieties and 3 edge varieties of farthings. (There are two related pieces 837 and 838, NOTED ADVOCATES FOT THE RIGHTS OF MEN. They have three hanging men (Thomas Paine, Thomas Hardy, and Thomas Spence) but do not mention Paine directly.)

The EOP tokens are very popular and tend to sell for more than what the rariety would indicate. The piece in the sale you linked strikes me as reasonably priced but it is NOT an RR token as the seller indicated. The D&H 830 with the PAYABLE AT SHREWBURY edge is the RR piece. This one (D&H 830a) was plain edged and is considered to be common.

    Rarities according to D&H
