GAI crossover to PSA or SGC

Just wondering if anyone has had any experiance with crossing a GAI card over to PSA or SGC? What was the outcome?

    I think the general consensus on here is that PSA will reject the majority of GAI crossovers due to evidence of trimming. Whether the cards in the GAI holder have actually been trimmed is questionable, although I have seen a number of trimmed cards in GAI holders. If you want to cross to PSA, crack them out and measure them to size and submit raw. I personally don't see any reason to cross a GAI to an SGC holder, as they both will have similar value.
  • I've crossed GAI to PSA, and for the most part it went one grade higher. I've never sent a GAI still holdered to PSA because reading that they've rejected them. I've always sent them in raw form after cracking them open. Never had a problem. Also done the GAI to SGC. In fact, I posted that little experiment not too long ago in another thread. (2 months ago) Do a search. 70-80% of my GAI crossed over to SGC in the same grade. The other 20% did not meet SGC's standard for same grade.

    Thinking about taking a gamble to buy this card that's graded by GAI and then crack it and put it in a PSA holder which I like better.. The guy selling it has mostly GEM MINT graded card which puts up red flags. *shrug*

    Thanks for your input.

    you have to know your sellers ! I have crossed 7 GAI cards , all cracked out

    gai8.5 -> psa 9
    gai 8 -> psa 8
    gai 8 -> psa 8
    gai 7.5 ->psa 8
    gai 7.5 -> psa8
    gai 7.5 -> psa 7 (the card is a strong 7 and is graded appropriately in both holders)
    gai 7 -> psa 6 (bought from a large dealer)

    all the cards that crossed were bought from individuals and trusted dealers.

    the one that didn't was bought from a dirtball dealer

    do some research on the rep of the dealer before you buy any card

    slabbed cards can be tricky if you know what I mean

    Every GAI card I've crossed over to PSA has come back either the same grade or lower, with the average result being one grade lower. I'm very disappointed in the grades I get from PSA every time I crack and submit GAI cards. In fact, some of have come back evid. of trim. or with grades two grades lower than what they were in a GAI case, and then I had a dealer friend submit them and they all came back graded and much higher. My results in my lifetime have all been porr with PSA, though, which is why I have to buy already graded cards. I have a t206 graded a 2 that NO ONE would think was less than a 6. I think someone there hates me. image

    I think jmpkcp needs a group hug. I like the SGC holder more than any other however I have the worst luck with them much like how you are with PSA jmpkcp. SGC always seems to grade the stuff I submit very harshly.

    At any rate this is the card.. LINK

    Anyone have any input on this seller?

    That BIN price seems pretty low for a legitimate 9. If you like the card, you buy it and take your chances. Myself personally, I would not consider crossing it unless I could tell it measured up perfectly in the holder, and then break it out. Be prepared for the possibility of it coming back as an 8 or evidence of trimming though.

    I think the bottomline is PSA just flat out hates GAI.
    This is for all the posts I've read about crossovers
    still in the GAI holders all getting rejected. For the most
    part, looks fine when it's crossed over after cracking it out.

    And Knuckles, I saw that card. This is the 2nd or 3rd time
    he's listed it. No takers the first time around. I collect hockey too
    and would love that card, but can't afford it. I've never purchased
    anything from this seller, so I don't know or can get you any input.
    That is a big gamble with that price tag. The card looks kosher.
    Has the OPC rough edge so you know it's not sheet cut like those
    BGS perfect edges. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

    Just 3 weeks ago I crossed a GAI 1977 Roger Staubach 9, didn't crack it out and it came back a PSA 9. I was very pleased.

    Thanks for the words on wisdom. What to do, what to do.

    If I do grab it I'll let you guys know how the crossover goes.
