Collectors Club special - clarification

The current special seems a bit vague about whether you send two coins or one. I called customer service and was told you pay for one, get the other free. Then he said that you can also just send one coin that fits the theme "same year/diff type" for a free grading. Has anybody sent anything yet that can clarify the actual special deal?

The quarterly special is always just one coin.

  • Welcome aboard.

For everyone else, do you think a 1892 Columbian Half would meet the rules?
The Barber halves started to be minted in 1892 as well.
    Would it count you think?

On a second note, would submitting a 1878 Morgan as compared to a 1878 Trade dollar work out too?
Looks like trade dollars and Morgans overlap from 1878 up to 1885?
I have a 1880-S, 1881-S, 1883-O, and 1885-O that could be submitted if this is OK, you think.
Plus a couple of worn 1878 7T and 8T Morgans too.

Heck I am on a roll, I happen to have a couple of Unc 1909 Lincolns I forgot about, a 1909 and a 1909vbd too.
But the dollars would be nicer I feel.

Thanks for the replies and the welcome. I look forward to participating on this board. I am new to collecting (other than as a lifetime casual collector) since July when I decided to go to the Baltimore show. It got me hooked.

Here is what is on the website:

This month's special is for coins of a different type, dated the same year. Note that this does NOT include varieties, such as the two varieties of the 1913 Buffalo nickel or the 1917 Quarter. The Redbook is the authority. If it defines the change as a variety, it does not count. If it has a separate TYPE heading, it counts. Only regular issue, circulation strike coins are eligible. Patterns (1856 Flying Eagle), "unusual" strikes (1913 Liberty Nickel) and commemorative coins do not qualify.

    So,.....that would make the Eisenhower 1972-P Type 1,2 or 3 eligible?image

  • Yeah I missed that part a while back about commoratives. Thanks
What about some of the Morgan's as compared to the trade dollars?

As mentioned. Commemoratives do not count and are exempt. The Trade/ Morgan $overlap is only good on the 78 year coins, as the latter year Trades 79> are proof only and do not qualify.

Also, Nobody seems to answer my continued question about whether or not the MM plays a part in eligible coins such as the Merc/Barber dime. 16-p, 16-s okay, but 16-d only made in the Merc design????
