Impulsecoin was his handle.

Edited to correct handle spelling.

I remember a thread about some low-priced 1999 and 2001 silver proof sets. Can't find it to link.
  • IIRC, he was selling his registry sets and listed too many PR69DCAM, but I stayed away from that when I asked if he accepts PayPal and he never answer. I looked at his set a couple of times. But now I can't find it. It was under impulsecoin sets. image

Power Seller, 734 positives, zero negatives. I wonder what got him NARUed?

I have $1,000 in the mail to him. I believe that someone who won some of these proof sets freaked out that his contact number rings into a fax machine - and had Ebay NARU him on them grounds. I have to admit that I am more than concerned. I (call me an idiot) still feel I am either going to get my proof sets or my money back.

BTW...I contacted the Mitchell SD Police (2 blocks from this guys physical address) to let them know something might be REAL fishy. They said they would send a detective over to ask him what is going on.

I will update any new info I get.
  • Did anybody order from this guy? I ordered 50 sets myself but I hadn't paid yet, guess I'll wait and see if he comes back up.

I added the link to my watched items and I was going to buy some of his 1999 Silver sets, but when I got around to it the seller ended the auction early.

It looks like I may have missed my opportunity to get ripped off image

  • The guy ran 3 seperate auctions for 150 sets each. Never ended an auction early, just had them all bought within hours.
Check his Ebay record and you will see, so don't jump on someone while looking at only 1 of the 3.
Yea, I got 20 and my check is in the mail. Some people bought lots more than 21.

Wow he sold 150 sets for $199.95 that $29,992.50 without shipping from 1 item. WOW.....
    image
  • No!
He sold 450 1999 Silver Sets for $199 ea and the auction only ended 4 days ago.
Just how fast of delivery do you want?

Ended 4 days ago is not the problem. The problem is: he was "Not a register user " with Ebay anymore..

What happened, is the question? And will these sets with another 341 other items in the last 30 days will be ever delivered?

His feedback shows that a lot of those 341 items have been delivered. This is a weird one.

It is wierd!!! I thought he was a board member and he had a registery set. I looked at his set a couple of times. But it is no longer there, I don't know what happened. I even was intrested in buying some items from him totaling about $750 and I asked him if he accepts paypal, since he used to, but since he did not accept paypal anymore. I did not buy them.
It is indeed wierd. And he migh be an honest person and just have misunderstanding with ebay, they are sometimes (edited out) you know..
I hope it will turn out alright... image

    OUCH! There's a worst-case scenario.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    TUMUSS,

If you just paid and they just raided him, you may be able to get your money back. He may not have had time to move the money. You need to immediately contact the authorities involved and file a claim providing them with all documentation of the sale.

    Russ,

Thanks for the advice. I have contacted the regional FBI office and already given them this info. WISH ME LUCK!

Good luck, Tumuss. Did you send a regular or certified check. If regular, you can always put a stop payment on it. I would contact my bank if it was a cashiers check..........you never know.

    Well,
I feel like a heal.... I was the original one who posted a thread about if these '99 and '01 sets are worth buying for an "investment". My plan was to hold them for a couple of years and sell. This seller looked good by all means to me and other members bought coins from him and they were recieved fine. To some members, the red flags immediately when up and thier intuitions were correct. The prices he was selling at was the same price(or close to it) that I have bin'd a couple of sets for.
    Geez...

I bought a couple of Krugerands off eBay a couple of years ago, and the guy didn't deliver. I was one of 100 people who did and when the police contacted him, he started to make a few refunds to buy some time.

Then he made the only move possible - he left the country back to his homeland of Brazil with about $250,000 in eBay thefts

  • This seems a very elaborate scam. How did he get so many positives in the first place, and he was still getting positives two days ago from users that look real? I sent him a check for $27.95 for one proof set that hasn't been cashed yet, I will look into stopping the check if it isn't too costly. Did anyone get any emails from him about purchases other than automatic ones? I didn't so I assumed that I should make the check payable to impulsecoin. Hopefully he won't be able to cash it anyway!

I sent a Postal Money Order. And just in case anyone has ever wondered - You CANNOT stop payment on them.image

Trooper, Do not feel bad. I am a big boy and made my own decisions. Just goes to show you 100% feedback can be JUST as dangerous to buyers.

...ps. that $1,000 was just going to feed my sick dog...and the operation for my dying grandmother...and the orphans clothes...but no need to feel bad about itimage

Ex-Girlfriend. We were together for 4 years...and the FBI turns them into mean (insert another word for female dogs). Never trust a woman with a gun!!!

  • My partner and I who ordered from him emailed him yesterday saying that since he was NARU'ed from Ebay we would take delivery COD only. We got an email back from him saying that his account was stolen and had to cancel it from ebay but he would send out sets if we sent him money. It is obviously fraud.

FYI - we order 50 of the 2004 silver proof quarter sets not the 1999 sets.
  • His feedback was excellent, and I was temped to buy from him. But the red flag was for me when he stopped accepting Paypal in the middle of Sep. 2003. He seems to work the scam very good building his image for a long time.
Can't we trust 100% positive feedback image
  • To follow up: I emailed the address I got through the "buy it now" checkout email to see if impulsecoin had received my check and got a reply:

"Hi, thanks for your email. Payment was received and your item will ship on 10-25-04

    thanks again."

So someone is responding to emails that get sent to impulsecoin.

I will keep everyone informed if I receive the set.

    Here's hoping!

That's a typical scammer response used as a delay tactic. Today is the 21st. With shipping time, providing a date of four days hence buys him another 8 to 10 days before the victim would normally get antsy again.

There's an outside chance he didn't cash the money order for any number of reasons. Hold on to your receipt and file a claim in 60 days (since he never sent the goods you might assume the money order was lost) For a $3 or $4 fee they will trace the m.o. and see if it was cashed. If it was you might be able to get a copy; if it wasn't you might get a refund.

With all the spoof E-mails I've received, it IS possible that the seller had his info stolen and the theif is trying to get a LOT of money for Christmas. Call the local police and see if you can get his home number and call him. See what he says. In addition, we are a brotherhood here on the boards of sorts. Is there anyone on these boards that's located near the seller? If so, then could you contact the seller in-person and check out the scoop? Just an idea. Good luck all. Ray
