Thanks,

It's getting tough to find these on-line at prices around bid. This especially applies
to mint sets, but it does also apply to proof sets. The few dealers who try to main-
tain stocks of these are finding it's far easier to sell than buy and buying will usually
require at least paying ask. Usually the sets ill be priced at least at about 150% of
bid on-line. There are a few which sell at lower prices even right here but I don't
know about the quality. Many dealers now will look at these sets and pull out high
    grade coins and varieties.

The best bet is to try your local stores which carry this sort of thing. Most of the mom
and pop shops get these in on occasion and let them accumulate a little before they
ship them off. These are a little harder to get but the price is usually lower and the
    quality can be much higher.

Normally proof sets are much too scarce to say which dealer would have them. I have only seen one 19th century proof set in its original box in my life, a 1876. At the larger coin shows you might be lucky to see even one 19th century proof set for sale. If you really want a particular year, it is often easier to put a set together yourself. I l know of a couple of folks who are putting together a modern, 20th century proof set ( a 1907 and a 1911) proof set. I'm putting together a mint/proof set from 1861. Legend did have a really cool 1861 proof set (without gold), but it was way over my budget.

In my shop I have my proof and mint sets priced at 20% above bid, which is also just about 10% above ask. If someone took a bunch...say 200 bucks or so I would knock off about 5 or 10 percent...the only problem is the shipping cost.
