eBay rolls off hsturn - Bad news?

I just won an auction for a roll of 1964 BU Kennedy halves. I noticed his wares aren't exactly liked around here (AFTER THE AUCTION CLOSED). I doubt he'd bother "scrubbing down" or dipping such recent coins but I suppose it's possible. I'm providing a link despite the fact that I'm embassed that I paid so much for them. image

  • Seeing that all of his rolls seem to look like that, I'm going to say they were dipped.

My personal preference is to stay clear of all of his auctions......

I think he uses stock photos, so what you see won't be what you get.

I bought a roll of MS64 "O" Morgans that actually had one MS64 in it, the rest were worse.

I also bought a raw Oregan Trail MS65 that PCGS slabbed as a AU-58

But hey, good luck with your roll - you never know

  • I don't like the idea that someone can say 'original' roll, and yet have them spread out like that or be in a plastic tube. An original roll comes in a bank or mint wrapper, and is sealed shotgun shell style. An opened roll is NOT original. Even if the original coins from that roll are kept together, you don't know if the coins were cherrypicked or cleaned up in some way.

  • Thanks everyone. I'll report back when I get them and post a photo. He has a 5 day return policy...

Most of the time the return policy does not apply to rolls because the seller does not know if you haveswitched a coin or not! Read the fine print!

I bought a roll of 1904-0 Morgans from him a couple of years ago, and actually was pleased with the condition and service. There was everything from blast white to album toned in the roll. He said MS62-64 and I agreed. Not a bad price either.

  • The guy has got SOME photographer working for him for individual coins. (I agree that he does use stock photos on the rolls relayer) Peaceman, I have to admit that I was tempted by one of his Peace dollars but something told me it was a bad call...live and learn.

An original roll does not have to be bankwrapped or unopened. Original roll means the group of coins original rolled together remain intact. The roll could be opened or tubed and still be "original".

I bought some individual coins from him in 2001. The coins he sent me were exactly as described.

    Agreed with wayneherndon.
