NCS before and after images...

BEFORE: Coin was hazy and had some nasty toning going on. PCGS PR63CAM.

AFTER: Coin came out very nice with deep mirrors and the contrast was not affected. There was one spot near the rim on the obverse that did not come off, other than that the coin looks fantastic! There is a hairline across the cheek which stood out like a sore thumb. It must have collected some toning that was removed or something because it's hardly noticeable now. I couldn't photograph the coin without the hairline jumping out before, now it's actually tough to get it to show up. Can only see it at a very narrow angle in hand. NICE! The coin does have a lot of very minor hairlines throughout the fields which couldn't be seen with the toning on them but are visable now. NGC graded it PF62CAM. Yes, the grade dropped by a point, but who cares. The eye appeal is about ten thousand percent better now. FANTASTIC!

  • I like the work that NCS did. Much better then what the coin looked like before the treatment.image

No, it's definitely still there, just much less apparant now. Like I said, I think the toning accentuated it.
  • eye appeal is in the eye of the beholder..i like the coin before it was fixed up..the original coin had character.. the after pic looks like a lifeless bland white coin that was dipped..ngc felt the same because they lowered the grade

    islemangu,

I have to admit, I liked your Peace dollar better before it was dipped.

the barber dime in proof has good eye appeal and is much better looking after the ncs conservation

sometimes not all the time but sometimes ncs is worthwhile

  • Personally, I liked the before pictures better. Hard to make a true compariso though since It doesn't look like the images were taken with the same settings and changing the positions of the camera or lights can have a big effect on the appearance of the coin.

Why is it that undipped 1921 Peace Dollars almost always look like they have coffee stains on them?

I don't know about anyone else, but original Peace Dollars with high eye appeal in any MS grade are hard for me to find. All I find are
super ugly toned ones or over dipped ones that look like they were spray painted chrome silver. image

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • pretty soon original undipped, untouched coins will be the rarity. I like the original tones of the peace dollars. Not the toned ones.

    Robert,

Did you crack this out of the holder? NCS/NGC will guaranty the grade of the coin in any holder (I think). If you cracked it, slap yourself on the hand. image

    Nice coin, by the way.

The Peace dollar is nice, too.

I only used NCS one time for some common pocket change. They did a fantastic job pulling what I think was laquer off the coins. I would use them again if I have the same problem. I don't think I would use them for classic coins though. JMO.
