Platinum Eagles

What do you feel are the chances of getting a PR69 Platinum Eagle regraded to PR70 by PCGS. Is it worth the investment to try and if so what level would you resubmit at?

It will not happen if regraded in the 9 holder, but there may be small odds if cracked out. BTW, Welcome to the boards.

Don't EVER expect an MS70 or PR70 from PCGS or any other service. And especially don't sink money into trying for one as an "investment". That's like buying a lotto ticket as an "investment", except the lotto ticket probably has better odds. To make a long story short: DON'T DO IT!

By the way, welcome to the forums!

I think all the grading on the bullion coins is simply silly. HSN is a big promoted of this and they crack me up like these are rare or something. If I were going to collect high grade coins it wouldn't be bullion even if were taking proofs and not MS coins.....sorry.

If I brought these it would be in the mint packages, along with the modern commemoratives. Maybe in the future for some items but I'd wait and see if they justify the cost or if there's any interest in the hobby .

"Is it worth the investment to try...", well to each his own, as it is difficult many times to objectively measure subjective value.

Since you ask the question, I'll help you with the demand side and will pay $5,000 for a $100 PCGS PR70 Plat coin in 1997,1998 or 1999.

Happy hunting if you so choose.

    Thanks

That makes it easy - $5,000 for a coin now worth around $1,000. Cost of grading $12. $4,000 to be made if it works. ODDS: 333:1 on the $12 "bet" if my math is right.

BBPM - welcome to the boards - even though you are trying to "steal" a 1997-1999 PR70DCAM $100 with your first post! image

Perhaps some answers to your questions:

"PCGS Perfect Platinum Offering" on Teletrade this Sunday (Auction # 1952).

    Many PR70's on the docket!

  • Hi Swampfox,

    Best of luck!

Wondercoin is correct.... and we should start at $5,000 if you do get one in the above mentioned series and year(and decide to sell). I believe, I have paid top $$$ for a $100 PR70 this year(2004) for a Pop 1 in the Plats.

But thats another story full of colorful characters and drawn out drama.

  • What about MS 70 platinum eagles by other grading companies like NGC and IGC? Are they as tough as a PCGS 70? What would their value be?
