Poll: (a) or (b)?

I don't know why I'm struggling with these two 1923 florins, but I am. Each has its pros and cons.

Please weigh in with your opinions. Thanks!

That mottled dark toning on the 2nd coin does not do it to me-does the background toning on the 2nd one make it look nicer in hand despite the dark splotches?

This was a hard choice for me as well, but based on what I see I think I lean slightly towards A.

"B" appears to have a stonger strike, but the black crud forces me to choose "A."

  • I like the antique toning of the second one but technically the first one would be the 'cleaner' coin to keep. Tough choice! They're both exceptional.

  • While toning does not either excite me or turn me off, that just isn't toning on B. seems like some crud or corrosion or whatever. I find A more eye appealing to me.

B looks like it might have a bit of wear on George's cheekbone, so I said 'A'.

I like the stronger strike on "B". I figure you can always use MS70 to get rid of the grime.

For once, I agree with Sylvestius. The toning on B is not nice. image

  • (A) has no "personality".
  • The toning on B is not very attractive IMHO, also appears to have a noticeable rim ding. Keep A and put it in an album. It may take awhile, but if you hold on to it for some time, it will develop some character.

They both have nice strikes, about equal on that count if you ask me (the lighting may make (B) stand out more). But they also both have their problems, however minimal (very minimal). (A) looks to have some marks on it, especially the ear. (B) has the cruddy aging effect and what looks to be a minor rim ding at 1030-obverse, maybe another at 0230.

Tough call. I can't be sure the spotting on (B) would come out with approved methods so I'd pick (A).. but I hit The same already, just to see what was going on image
