And while the rest of the Jefferson world sleeps at the switch i snag a lowly graded DCAM for a bargain price!!! I guess in the Registry Set game it's only a PR68 equivalent, right?? image

You cleaned up! PCGS values these at 4 X's what you paid- and even then: good luck finding one at that price.
    Nice pick up!

Is that a good price for a dcam jefferson? I imagine the pop on that one in dcam must be pretty low, yes??

    hey Ken

i was nearly deflected!!!!!! i'm still on a phone modem and things were loading slow-------i refreshed at 1 min. 2 sec. and the bid wasn't posted until 18 seconds remained. i've lost more than a few auctions because of that but i'm trying to upgrade my PC. i looked at a really sweet HP this afternoon that was loaded. here's the funny part------it has a 200 gig harddrive and i'm currently on an old Aptiva with eight gig total and five available.

is that overkill or what???image i know i need more room and can fill plenty, but 200 gig?? WOWZER!!!!

Keets, you inspired me to take a closer look at the 1955 proof Jefferson. In so doing, I stumbled upon this BIN on eBay and just had to pull the trigger.
    What do you think?

If that thing is really a DCAM, you did great!

Buyer and seller of vintage coin boards!
  • Thats a nice coin keets damn!

    1) i'm still on a phone modem and things were loading slow.

    2) has a 200 gig harddrive]

    3) that overkill or what???

    Answers to above

    1) Get cable internet, loading times won't be so slow

    2) Unless you downloading movies you don't need this much HD space.

    3) yes by about 120 gig, what ya want is about 2+ gig of ram, a killer video card(Nvidia makes killer cards, like the Geforce 6200), and about a 3.0 + ghz Processor.

    PURPLE!

I remember seeing that coin and I didn't bid on it because I prefer grade over frost.

The DCAM earns 2 bonus points of Registry value, making it "worth" the same as a garden variety PR68... which sells for what, about $35?

    But that's just me.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Pat (aka braddick),

It looks like yours has a ring of nice blue tone to it!

    hey Pat

i think that Jeffersons in NGC holders with grades of PR68CAM and higher can be good values if you're patient. they may not always cross to same grade PCGS holders but the prices are usually low. i've had several and still have a few stashed somewhere!!!

............and Dennis, we've sparred over our very different preferences with regard to Jeff grades before, haven't we??!!!!?? from my lofty perch, a Proof Jefferson Set---Registry or otherwise---is, at it's heart, all about Cameo Coins. my comment about the 66DCAM=68NOCAM was tongue-in-cheek. i'd take the DCAM all day long. even my "brilliant" coins have noticeable contrast or some degree of tone which sets them apart from what my eyes see as generic.

    Keets:

And our different preferences is what makes collecting so much fun, yes? Besides, each of us not wanting what the other guy wants means we aren't competing for the same jewels!
    When in doubt, don't.

the coin arrived today and is probably fairly graded as a PR66DCAM. it is a solid DCAM with evenly frosted devices and lettering without any breaks, the mirrors are deep and watery. there is slight strike weakness which wasn't apparent in the auction pictures, so the sixth step isn't clearly defined and there are striations in the fields which can be seen if the coin is held at the proper angle or viewed with a glass. coupled with a few scattered hairlines and i think it's OK where it resides.image

    still a bargain.

Just checked this post. Very nice acquistion. I suspect the coin in hand will look much nicer than the picture. How does this coin compare to your other proof CAM/DCAM Jeffersons?
  • ms70ms70 Posts: 13,954 ✭✭✭✭✭

Jet900 is a great seller. The coins are always much nicer than the pics.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

    hey Sanction

the mirrors are probably the coin's strong point and there are no frost breaks or fades. it compares favorably with the DCAM's from the 1968-1974 time period.

Muy bueno, amigo. Su Jeffy is muy caliente.
  • Great coin! It sounds like you need to upgrade your internet connection.... I still think more people will try to assemble top quality Proff Jeff sets in the future. When that happens these lower than top pop coins should pop in price...
  • My proof Jeffs currently stop at 1950 - gonna have to venture into the
    later dates soon... image
