Would PSA grade this?

In 1990, SCD released a sheet of 5 cards in each magazine over the course of the year. The Jordan is the only card in the set with any sort of value, and I can't find a record of PSA ever grading one of these. They are hand-cut only cards, I'd imagine they had to be licensed by MLB considering the source. Will they grade it?

I believe PSA will grade anything that will fit in one of their holders, including business cards, library cards, drivers licenses, credit cards, you name it.

Seriously, they do grade these specialty cards, they just have to be able to determine (from the reverse, usually) the year and manufacturer for the flip.

I hand-cut a Johnny Bench card from a 1983 Cincinnati Reds yearbook, same type of card you have, and I sure hope PSA will grade it. The only thing with these hand-cut cards that have no dotted lines to cut close to, they must measure either a standard 2.5 x 3.5 or a size that PSA knows to be correct for that issue.

I doubt they will grade it, as it is unlicensed. I also doubt they will grade the yearbook cut-out.

Don't count on it. Those were unlicensed, yet used logos and images based on an "editorial" loophole in the CBA. So much hoopla was made about the sneaky actions of the publisher (Krause) they were forced to stop printing them. PSA will know this and will put the kibosch on grading them for sure.
  • the funniest thing about that card
is that MJ never played for the White Sox...

he BARELY played for the Birmingham Barrons!

    he SUCKED.

so him in a SOX uni is a funny pic to those
in birmingham who saw him try and fail.

  • Jordan did take BP with the Sox a few times before he tried the baseball thing and also participated in the Windy City Classic, which was a Cubs v. Sox game that was held on a yearly basis before interleague play. I believe the one year MJ played in that contest at Wrigley and had the game winning hit.
  • I've never seen this particular card of jordan what kind of value does it carry?

According to the 2004 Standard Catalog, the card is worth $10 in NM. I'd imagine it would pull a few bucks more than that on eBay.

For those that don't know, these cards were inserted inside Baseball Card Magazine (and perhaps some other magazines to a lesser extent.) They pictured current stars with the look, both front and back, of vintage Topps sets.

I didn't know these weren't legit cards. Honestly, they are just about my favorite cards from the late 80's/early 90's. I've got all of the Will Clarks, I think. The replicard years for Will Clark are: 57, 59, 59 w/Gwynn, 64, 66, 68, 69, 70, 71, 74, 75 and, strangely enough, 73 football. Some of these were pretty tough to find, but well worth it. The 68 and 71 are by far the best in my book.

I saw an entire run of the cards for all players on ebay some time ago...I should have bought it.

  • I have tons of those cards still in sheet form from the magazine if you are interested send me an email:
