I've seen 2 on ebay in the last year, though I'm only an intermittent searcher and haven't been spending much time there lately at all. I remember one went very cheaply ($10 or less) but was in bad shape. Otherwise I can't add much. There are alot of other Medallic Art Company things though, search MACO and you pull up alot.
No, it's not gold. They reportedly come in bronze, matte gilt bronze or possibly gilt brass. It's a nice example of the "Captivity of Czechoslovakia" medal struck in 1939 to commemorate the annexation of Czechoslovakia by Nazi Germany. Although some think it's a Czech medal, it's really an American issue, but I'm not sure who it was commissioned by, but probably by members of a Czech-American group. (MACO -- the Medallic Art CO. -- is a company in New York.) One as nice as this typically goes for $40 on eBay.
With the original case, it's worth a little more to a collector; maybe $10 more, depending on condition. Although a fairly common medal, it's rarely offered with the case. I have three of these, none with a case.
