Assuming you collect US coins, which (if any) colonial coins would you consider owning and why?

I think the 'crossover' list includes the following:

Pine Tree Shilling
Continental Dollar
Bar Cent
Nova Constellatio
Fugio

Pine Tree Shilling--collectible 17th Century coin.

Continental Dollar--first US dollar and dated 1776. I like the rings on the reverse with the 13 states inscribed.

Fugio cent--Because I like the rings on the reverse, and it looks like I will not be able to afford the Continental Dollar.

I have a Fugio because they are America's "First Cent"

I'd love a nice sharp Bar Cent (I like the imaginative design), but since they are a bazillion dollars, I do have a $3.95 copy because I think it's an important coin because of it's unique design.

I'd also take the Pine Tree, Continental Dollar and Nova if not for the money they cost image

First coin to have USA on it? I'd like to give you a better answer, but I can't. It just seems to be more in the 'general interest' category.

I'm torn between the Continental Dollar and the Fugio. I like them both a BUNCH. If forced to choose, I'd probably go with the dollar, just because it's bigger.

Sorry, doesn't cut it. That thing does nothing for me. Just as well. I'll need the money for piles of Mass silver.

I have a grand total of 1 piece of Mass silver in my collection -

I expect my coins to be round and look like coins, which many of these don't. In which case you may as well collect credit cards, or that massive square engraved rock that used to be in the Guiness Book of Records as the 'World's Largest Money'. I think it was right before the two obese guys on mopeds.

I only have one "colonial" a GW piece. I think that they are kinda cool and will probably buy them from time to time. They are rich with history. I would like almost any of them.

    Probably a RosaAmericana

I dug one of these when I was younger with a metal detector locally, and thought it was one of the neatest coins to come out of the ground that I found.

Andy, I think the engraver (and I use that term loosely) was drunk on some Iroquois Brew when he cut those dies..... what was he using for an engraving tool? A horseshoe nail? image
  • A Fugio, just because of the history behind it image

I love Fugio Cents. I'd collect every one of them if I had the money.

Massachusetts coins are also cool since I live in the same state.

Pine Tree.... then perhaps the N.C. and Fugio's. The Bar cent is a button. The Continental $ is a token. image K

  • I have an Oak Tree Shilling, a gem Voce Populi, and just acquired a gem Mass 1/2 cent from the Ford sale. I am trying to have an example of every colonial that is listed in the RED BOOK. I know it is a virtually impossible task, but hey that's what collecting is, isn't it?
