Are silver BRITANNIA s proof or unc.
Hello. Usually a U.S. collector but I found my way into the BRITANNIAS recently and thought that they looked great. I am confused though as to whether both silver proof and silver unc. exist. I am refering to the two pound denomination. Here's what I think I know so far:
1997 Only silver proof BRITANNIA
1998-2004 obverse is unc. and reverse is proof
Is this right? Thanx for your help.

These uncirculated issues carry a fairly high price premium (compared to typical silver eagles or maples) but are far less expensive than the true proof issues that are very low in mintage (typically 10,000 to 15,000) and sell in the $50-$100 range per coin. The uncirculated issues typically sell in the $15-$25 range per coin.

<< <i>The 1997 Silver Britannia was proof only and the others were made in uncirculated "proof-like" as well as true proof strikes for the years 1998, 2001, and 2003. What confuses most people is that many of the regular uncirculated "proof-like" issues look like reverse cameo proof coins (see photo below). >>
Don't forget there was a proof minted in 2004 that has the same reverse design as 1997

Really have yoiu seen one yet? Mine is on back order and I have not seen it in hand yet.
From the BRM for the 2004 Proof:
The impressive Britannia Two-Pound Silver Proof coin, created by award-winning sculptor Philip Nathan, measures 40mm and contains one full ounce of fine silver.
To further enhance its beauty, the coin is struck using a combination of two very special Proof finishes; the obverse bearing Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of the Queen, is struck with the familiar Proof finish while the reverse features an exquisite satin Proof finish.
With a strictly limited issue of 5,000 worldwide, demand is certain to be high.
