Sounds like more of the same non-definitive crap.

But...welcome to america where people are no longer "innocent until proven guilty" but rather "guilty by association, guilty by suspicion, or guilty by public opinion."

Bonds is arrogant, unfriendly to the media, and not the world's nicest guy. But why hang him for his personality? Until there is undeniable proof, I for one give him the benefit of the doubt.

I am ashamed by anybody in our society who prosecutes before the facts. I personally have serious doubts that Bonds has done steroids based on his life in the game with Bobby and Willie, his lack of major injuries, and his lack of extreme growth overnight (he has grown in a completely normal way over the last 15 years, and has a workout regimen to be jealous of....I've seen him work out in Santa Clara) or a steep drop in size since steroid testing was announced (see Giambi for a reference). The day I see hard evidence, I'll flip like a coin. But until that day, he is the greatest hitter in baseball, now and maybe ever.

I can't agree with you more...unfortunately, rarely does the "court of public opinion" follow the rules of law.
And the attitudes from that court are fueled by media types whose only true motive is to bring guys like Bonds down IMO. And that's because the have tiny, teeny, weeny little penises! image

  • Everything else aside, this kind of stuck with me that i had to read it again.

The surge toward Aaron was sparked by a late-career power outburst that coincided with Bonds' relationship with BALCO. That association began not long after the 2000 season, when Anderson took the Giants' outfielder to meet Conte. In the four years since, Bonds has hit 209 home runs -- or 30 percent of the homers he has smacked in his 19-year career.

I never witnessed him take anything, so i won't say if he did or not. And i have always believed innocent until proven guilty, but that is certainly an odd coincidence of facts.

It's stuff like this that put Pete Rose where he was up until this past January. Completely unsubstantial evidence and statements made by people who have a certain motivation to lie. The article is pretty slanted, too. "The recording is the most direct evidence yet that Bonds used performance-enhancing drugs during his drive to break the storied record for career home runs." This is true unless you realize that it is not direct evidence at all. Direct evidence is something like Bonds' own admission, a positive test, or a syringe with his blood on the needle and steroids in the cylinder. I could make a recording where I say that Bonds hits homeruns because he pays the pitchers to serve him BP fastballs, but that wouldn't be given much weight. Neither should this "evidence." This sort of tape would never be admitted in court, and you have to wonder about the motivation for giving a tape to a newspaper in the middle of an investigation. Seems like a simple smear, like the contents of sealed testimony being leaked earlier. I have no idea if Bonds used steroids or not, but this certainly doesn't convince me.
