Opening wax packs right now

Since it did not sell this weekend, I opened the wax boxes I bought from Mark Murphy. Once again nothing but great things to say. Box 1 was 86 Topps Hockey and I pulled out 2 Patrick Roy Rookies along with a bunch of Lemieux and Gretzky cards. Box 2 was 1980 Topps Hockey and I pulled 2 Ray Bourque rookies, 2 2nd year Gretzky's, 1 Mike Gartner Rookie along with a bunch of Gretzky All-Star and Team Leader cards. Next box is 1979 O-Pee-Chee baseball...

Sounds like the weekend isn't a total loss! Sorry to hear about the show thing. Back in the early 90's I set up at shows that weren't well advertised and traffic was slow - also depends on what you are selling of course and the audience the show is attracting. A lot of people on the boards have stated that the shows have overpriced graded items - alluding to the fact that ebay rules...

Fantastic! How was the centering? If really good, how about a scan?

  • Topps Hockey! Eewwwww. That stuff is like the kiss of death. Grats on the Ozzie though.

I'm curious about this statement. Care to elaborate?
  • Mike,

The Ozzie is just a little better than the usual centering. It did avoid the horrific edges that happens with a lot of the O-Pee-Chee.

I have always been more of a fan of OPC Hockey. For whatever reason I avoid Topps like the plague. For Football and Baseball Topps is great. But when it comes to Hockey I prefer the brand that looks like it was cut with spoons.
  • Older OPC issues did have the advantage of an extended player selection (more cards in the set than Topps) and whiter card stock.
  • That too. IIR there were some lesser known rookies I could only pick up in OPC sets. And through the years I have just kept with my moto of avoid Topps hockey.
