MrsSpud's Junk Bin Find - Possible 71 Jeff FS

Hi,
Me and MrsSpud stopped by the local coin dealers shop today. We really didn't want to spend much money so we decided to take a dive into the old 1/2 off junk bin. Well, we found a few nice cheap toned coins and whatnot and MrsSpud picked up a few really cheap Jeffersons for her Library of Coins album she is just starting to work on. We brought them home and took another look at them and we noticed the 71 Jefferson looked really interesting. It appears that it might be full step. Also, the rim on the obverse looks really strong and squared off. It almost reminds me of a proof on the obverse but without the mirrors. Anyway, take a look at the pics if you have a minute and let us know what you think of it. Thanks, in advance for any replies.

Looks 5FS to me... the bottom step looks merged, but it could be the light

  • The coin is AU so the steps wont matter if you are sending it in. Nice stike though.

Thanks for the responses. The coin has a few contact marks, but not really too bad compared to some others from the 70s that I've seen and not marked up much on the steps. The pics are shot through an old 2X2 making it look a bit worse than in hand. It isn't blast white, more of a bit greyish but doesn't really look for sure to be circulated in hand. What knocks it down to an AU?
