Is it really hard to find original, problem-free draped bust coinage?

Planning a new set of collector coins(I think I'm going slabbed all the way on these...). How and where(when) does one look?

Yes, it is really hard. Good luck. (You may have an even harder time finding only PCGS coins...)

  • If by original you require coins that have never been cleaned, the answer is yes, it is really hard to find to find original, problem-free draped coins. Also IMO, there are many sellers of draped bust coins who advertise coins as original when in fact they have been cleaned.

Many draped bust collectors prefer their coins unslapped and there are some excellent coins that are not certified. However like all unslapped expensive coins, there frequently is a reason the coin is not certified. Also be aware the that large majority of coins certified are not problem-free. The biggest culprit being hairlines from cleaning.
