Frederick Md Coin Show

Otherwise known as the Michael Dixon Show.As usual the highlight for me was meeting up with forum members. There were about 30 dealers. There was a wide variety of coins for most collectors. The coins I collect weren't there.I was the brunt of a conspiracy.Evidently they had to much time on their collective hands Friday. Some of the dealers(friends) that know me decided to tell me one of them had found a 1936 PR65 CAM Lincoln and wanted to know if I was interested.imageimageimage Like what Lincoln proof collector wouldn't beimage. Then after a few minutes I realized their is now known such coin. They all had a good laugh about that.Seeing my excitement and then constirnation.I being the person I am,I took the good natured ribbing in stride.I didn't kill them !image I was shown some nice coins though.I didn't have any money to buy anything any way.I'll let others add to this thread.

One of the biggest YOU SUCKS has to go to my friend Bruce. Some of the regular Baltimore crew know him. He was showing Don his Lincoln collection and his fake '22 plain. Don looks at it and then starts to stare at it. He thinks it's REAL!!! We brought the coin over to Wayne Herndon. Wayne said that he was leaning to the side of it being real too. Bruce bought the coin on Ebay for $4. image

Very nice show, always worth attending. Great to meet Tootawl, Bruce and see Don and Mike again. I'm still jealous of Rob Joyce for cherrypicking a rare 1921-D VAM-8B....only the third ever discovered. If I had known, I'd have flattened his tires or something to get there before him!
  • Hey folks. I lurk here all the time, but rarely post.... I drove up to Frederick from NoVa for the show today (Saturday). I picked up 3 pretty nice 1944 nickels (P, D, & S) for the 1944PDS uncirculated set I'm working on building, as well as a couple mid-90s proof sets to fill in the gap from back when I had stopped collecting. I'd like to start collecting early 19th century stuff, but frankly know so little about it that I'd have a hard time figuring out if I was getting a good deal. It'd be nice to meet some of you folks... maybe at the next show in the DC area.

I always enjoy seeing all the board members. Nobody brought me the Diet Coke with Lime or a Diet Pepsi! Ol' Wayne Herndon is turning out to be a regular comedian! image

  • My wife and I enjoyed the show today. Not much there that I was looking for. Bought a proof Lincoln from Merz and a 61 Mint Set from Mike Dixon. The best was meeting some new forum members; Merc and Charlie. Also shot the breeze with Merz, Wayne Herndon, Mike Dixon and Tootwal. We always have a good time at the Fredrick shows.image

Hi I was there too on Saturday. It is only a 5 minute drive from my house. This was the smallest show I've attended. Then I used to live in Florida where some of the biggest shows are. Since it was a small show, it was easy to find the pcgs forum members.

I was there when one dealer told merz2 he had a PF69 cam 1936 Lincoln. (I though the guy said PF69). He claimed he had just sold it. Don was quite upset at loosing out on this great coin. I told him, think about it, there are no PF69 cam 1936. It was a pretty good joke!

I only bought 3 coins -a fine 1903-o Barber half and 2 other Barber halves to try to finish my vg-f collection. This was a collection I started in high school when I could buy VG Barbers for $2.75 at some auctions. I have some pretty Barber halves too like my new 1893 proof, but I want to have a complete set.

  • I note that Merz did'nt discuss the $500 offer shouted across the Bourse floor by a dealer , for Merzs' multi $1000 collection, after Merz almost trashed it when he dropped it and sent it scattering across the floor. In defense of the dealers' offer, he did say he would pick it up at no extra cost, and anoter dealer bid $525 withpickup included. Also, MD, it appeared to me you were drinking a coke..

Sound like you didn't go down the wrong street the wrong way after all. Was it laying on the sidewalk or in the street?

BTW, That lincoln was overgraded, I'd go PR68Cam at best.
