Because of the short run and exotic nature of steel cents, all steel cent errors and varieties are more desirable and higher priced than their copper and zinc counterparts.

  • Wow - that'd be interesting - you'd think that with a steel coin, being as hard as it is, it'd be hard to put much of a visible die clash image on the coin.
  • On the obverse the only place you can notice the clash is a line from Lincoln's chin to the bowtie from the "N" in "CENT." On the reverse, however you can make out a good portion of faint head, face and shoulders.

It sits in an ICG MS-67 slab, for what THAT'S worth...

    Sounds interesting.

  • My camera is not well enough equipped with a macro function to get a good pic without shooting through a 10X loupe. Here is the only pic so far that is in focus. You can see where the back of the head and neck join the shoulder.

I've got a 1944-S with the complete profile of Lincoln on the reverse. The lettering (One Cent-United States of America) runs up to Lincoln's bust then bends up and over and down the profile. Kind of neat looking. Are these reverse profile clashes common???

I think all steel cent errors are interesting. Here's one of mine below.
It would be nice to have a clashed one like yours, which the profile stands out.

Yours is nice 'cause you can see it with the naked eye. On mine the clash is so faint that you need a loupe.
