  • 1942 Type 2 nickels do contain some silver. They also have a large mint mark above Monticello. I believe this was the first time the P mint mark was used on a US coin.

    Reverse of 1938 - wavy, poorly defined steps (all 1938 MS, some 1939 MS, most 1939 PR, very few 1940 PR)
    Reverse of 1940 - clean, crisp, straight steps (some 1939 MS, few 1939 PR, most 1940 PR)

  • Yup. There are very few proof '39 Rev of '40 and also very few proof '40 Rev of '38.

    MS populations for '39 are messed up because they didn't used to distinguish one reverse from the other.
