Virus warning

EagleEyeEagleEye Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭✭✭
Beware of e-mails with an attachment and the following in the body of the E-mail:

"Your account was used to send a large amount of spam during this week."
"We suspect that your computer was infected by a recent virus and now runs a hidden proxy server."

"We recommend you to follow the instruction in order to keep your computer safe."

The link will install a virus.

I post this off-topic warning here just to remind people to be careful, it your not careful, you can get a virus very easily.

I never open attachments from any source I don't recognize.

Thanks for the info, Rick. Of course I'm scared to click the link imageimage

BTW, you DO know that you can get a virus from an e-mail WITHOUT opening an attachment in it, right?
  • Thanks!

Yes, my virus checker catch those. This one did not get blocked becase the subjust line said:

"Returned mail: see transcript for details"

Also it did not contain a virus, the link contained a virus.

For those afraid to click on the link:

07/26/2004 Spam Emails Containing W32/MyDoom Virus

We have received reports of a virus that is circulating disguised as a spam notification.

The email takes the form of an error message from noreply, postmaster, mailer-daemon and similar addresses from silcom.com, west.net, netlojix.com, and other ISP domain names. It refers to a message that couldn't be delivered or accuses the victim of spamming, etc.

The email includes a small .zip with what appears to be a valid file attached. This variant of Mydoom is known to send attachments, typically .bat, .com, .exe, .pif or .scr files within a zip archive, within another zip archive.

Please update your anti-virus software as soon as possible. You may visit the following links for more information:
