MS70's Washingtons?? what 's up??

On E-Bay at the moment there are a lot of SGC Washingtons graded MS70. How can this be? Real grading services have very few 67's and almost nothing higher. What are these coins, made, dipped, or real? I'm confused, maybe some of you can shed some light on this for me. Thanks

You mean SGS (not SGC), right? It's likely they do not use the same grading criteria as other, better-known services.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Every coin graded by SGS is a 70.

They don't have a DCAM designation, so their proofs are all graded PF70 CAMEO

Kranky you are being too kind!

SGS absolutely positively do not use the same standards as other TPG's.

    Joe.
  • Pay no attention to the grade SGS gives a coin. I've seen a circulated coin that might grade AU-55 that was graded as a MS-67.
  • thanks to all. Those fast replys are the best, and I think I will stay away from these coins for now but how or why do they do it ( for the money....dah!). How come these coins can be so far away from perfect...............either perfect is perfect or its not!

Thanks again for the info I am learning at the sped of typing!!
