Thinking of Spending More Cash Than I'm Accustomed To (Mercury Dime)

There is a beautiful mercury dime I am interested in that's selling for $260. Before I drop that type of dough, how is the mercury dime market doing? It seems prices have gone way up. Are they gonna come back down? Continue to rise? Buy now or wait? thanks

If you're thinking about it even though it's out of your normal price range, and it's truly beautiful, who cares about where the market is going? Take my word for it- you'll feel pretty awful if someone else buys it while you're thinking about it. Also, don't feel bad about buying an expensive coin- the whole idea of coin collecting is to get the rare and exciting pieces that attract everyopne's attention, not to have a box full of common "junk" at the end of the day.
  • If you like the coin, then buy it. Just make sure it is priced fairly now,
for what it is. Simple. image
  • I'm gonna do it!

Cool, and when it's said and done, can you post a pic or the link so we can show our jealousyimage
  • That sounds like a good idea! image

ChuckC, no matter how much you like the look or sound of the coin, a bit of research wouldn't hurt. We didn't have any specifics with which to offer any help in that regard. Also, I'd suggest making sure you have a return privilege.
  • Coinguy: it's from a reputable dealer that many on this forum are familiar with (Whitlow)...I'm calling tomorrow to discuss the purchase.

Any pre-29 mintmarked one is always a good buy!

Regardless of what the "market" does, my favorite coins are the ones I "stretched" to buy..

  • Don't buy based on future prices. Buy because you like the coin. If the coin is really nice, you might not get a chance at another like it for a long time.

Just pre 29 ? What about the 30 and 31 dates. Heck you might add the 34D just for kicks also. A couple of the P dates are quite tough also before 34.

Chuck what is the date you are looking at ? PM if you would like.
