Hey Morgan guys - here's one for you...

One of the old, conservatively graded PCI holders. Looks at least 64 to me, but I don't collect Morgans. What do you guys think?

In case you were wondering, it's not my auction, and I don't know the seller.

  • I'll agree Barry, it does look like a 64 to me also.

What is that striation on the obverse? On the holder, perhaps?
  • I've been watching that coin but it's gotten out of my price range.

What? Greysheet bid for a 63 is $470. If your price range is less than the current bid of $436, you won't be touching a true 63 anytime soon.

    You got that right! image

I'm sticking to circulated CC Morgans, for now.

The only problem with that is in 27 years, I have only seen a handful of circulated 85-CC Morgans. You may need to keep a lookout for a 62, some 62s can be very nice looking and probably closer to your budget.

    Eric,

Thanks for the info. I'm just starting out collecting Morgans. I always believed that eye appeal is more important than the grade. For circulated silver coins I look for an even gray color w/ no problems (NGC PCGS cert).

Circ 85-cc and 03-o Morgans are tough to find and I spect nice eye appeal examples will be a tad tougher.

Barry: It's s very nice looking 1885-CC, which may make PCGS MS-64.

Some of the CC Morgans in those old PCI Green Border Label holders with the "PQ" designation, will upgrade at least one point using today's more lenient grading standards for CC Morgans.
