Your opinion on photo quality and grade please

Ok here's the deal, about a year ago I decided to go all out and collect the most popular series, Morgans. So I went out and I purchased the top of the line albums (Intercept Shield) and I was on my way. Anyway along the line I got quite interested in paper money and have completely went over to that. I intend to sell the Morgans on the BST here probably next week or so.
So my question is do these pictures capture the luster and condition of the coin decent. I know they're ginormous, so I've linked them. I'll take pics of them all like this and then put it on the BST like that I suppose. Feel free to PM me if you want to know what the collection consists of before then or I suppose you can ask here too.

BTW I purchased this as a "GEM BU" last year from Dave's Coin in La Crosse

The pics are excellent having them that big will turn off dial-uppers. If you downsize them I think they will be perfect! image

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • Ok are these better?

I'm a dial-upper. It took about 2 minutes to load the obverse. Didn't look at the reverse. Had to scroll back and forth and up and down to view coin. I like to see coins about full screen size. Where I can see the coin as a whole. Just my opinion. image

It looks more like a scan than a picture. I'd imagine the coin is silver but it looks like it has a brownish tint.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • Shot it through one of those desk mounted magnifiers.

Currency is a lot of fun to collect.

  • It appears all the details may not be coming through. The breast feathers on the reverse do not appear to be defined, but that may be the result of the scan / photo. Also, the brownish tint obscures the coin's true color and luster.

Do you have a digital camera with macro mode? If so, you might want to try that.
  • pics are not bad at all .......maybe a size between the two - I also notice details not coming through - and color is silver? as mentioned above ......... I want to sell my Morgan collection also. But it is just so time consuming and difficult to get good photos, which is why I haven't fooled with it. I have an older digital cam and also a scanner, but guess one day I will get a round tuit.

The marks show well, but I don't see any lustre--are you shooting with one light right on top or diffused light? Both of those will kill lustre.

  • I noticed that too, mainly on the reverse, if judging by that pic I imagine the coin wouldn't even be unc, but it is. How do you recommend I shoot it? I'm using an Olympus D-560 on macro mode with no flash through a desk mounted magnifier. (Those large ones you see at coin shows) The magnifier has a light it in as well, so maybe there's a certain angle I should be doing it at.

I have fantastic resolution, a wide screen monitor, and a broadband connection. The first set of pics isn't up anymore but I'd rather see them bigger than the second set which is working. The smaller pics may be OK for dialuppers and then keep a link to a larger version for people with fast connections or for dialuppers who want to zoom in and see the details (if they like the smaller pics but want more detail, for instance).

Also I agree the tint isn't that flattering to the coin. Also are you holding it or something? Is that your thumb in the corner of the coin?

Anyway the pics are pretty decent so far and good luck selling them, I will be watching!

Maybe you should try it without the magnifier, which may be distorting the image and hence losing some detail on the coin. Hopefully you can get the camera close enough (mine can get a close as 1.5 inches).
