Welcome Jonesy! What area of the Darkside are you interested in?
This is a question we ask a lot of the newly-caught Lightsiders and I'm not sure it's easy for them to answer. My Epiphany was a first visit to a coin shop to seek US type coins. The shop happened to be strong in World coins and I began browsing them. As I did a great shining light burst upon me, revealing history stretching back millenia, not just a couple of centuries. Designs that were beautiful, gorgeous, and different, oh god they were different! Not to minimize US coins, but after awhile it's a lot of same oh-same-oh. And they were cheaper, much cheaper, downright fair! Many of the US coins I aspired to I would (and will) never be able to own...
But it was only after spending some time with World Coins and buying and reading the literature and guides that I was able to begin to decide on areas of concentration. Browsing begets interest and the looking is much of the fun!
Well, look at me, Aethelred asks a simple question of jonsey and I answer for him-sorry
One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by inferiors. – Plato
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
Great to see you here on the Darkside, jonesy! I've been here since I started, collecting a lot of Canadian coins. It's so much fun here, so I hope you'll stay around
