Hah? NOT....Why? He's done dominating anyone. Plently of other talent on the upswing for George to secure. He is no Clemens. He is not wanted in NY. Maybe the Senators.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

Posada wants nothing to do with him.

    ...........likely Jeter feels the same.

    ........George and Joe will pass.

    edit to add:
smart money likes him in LA or Anaheim next year
  • Jorge and Jeter don't make those decisions. Mr. Steinbrenner does. If George wants him, then Pedro will cut his jheri curls and goatee and don the Yankee uniform in 2005.

The one free agent I want to see in Pinstripes next year is Carlos Beltran. He's on the verge of becoming the best player in baseball.
  • I'd love to see Beltran on the yanks next year but don't you think the Stros will sign him back??

I don' thtink the Astros will be able to afford him if he will command about $17 - $18 mil a year. For some reason, I don't see the Yankees getting him either - just like I did not se ethem getting Vlad Guerrero.

I think Beltran will sign with either the Cubs or Angels. The Angels have the $$$ and the ownership to sign him, and the Cubs will free up a lot of money this offseason , whether or not they get rid of Sosa. Plus, from what I saw at Wrigley, Beltran already owns the place!!

I just pray to God he doesn't go to St. Louis (can't afford him anyway). Could you imagine - Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Beltran, Renteria, etc?

    Remember these Chuck Norris Facts

    1. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down
    2. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Chuck Norris can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday
    3. There are no such things as lesbians, just women who have not yet met Chuck Norris
  • Vlad didn't want to come to NY, the Yankees never seriously persued him, and they wanted Sheffield all along. The Yankees are desparate for a CF and want Beltran badly. They will do what it takes to get him. Even if it takes $20 mil/yr.

    JCMCD,

Welcome to the board! OK, I give up. Why do you want Beltran in pinstripes if from you icon you look like a St. Louis fan?

I assume because that his Cards won't face Beltran in 2005 if Beltran's a Yank.

That is one reason and the other is the Yanks are my AL team. Have been since Mattingly. So yes, this will be a perfect year if they can both make the series(and I can get tickets).
Back to Beltran, with his power speed and youth will be potent for a while!

Let's face it - Beltran, Pedro, and whomever else is available (Nomar?) will probably be Yankees next year. Maybe then, when the payroll hits $300 million ++, will MLB step in and institute a hard salary cap. Otherwise, you will continue to see more fans care less and less about baseball, due to the screwed up competitive balance. The only way to build a dynasty in football is through great management, player development, and superior coaching - you can't just buy one like you can in baseball.

  • Have you noticed how much Beltran's swing looks llike Mantles?

What exactly is the rate of taxation on the current luxury tax? $1 for every $1 over the cap (I'm asking - I really don't know)? Perhaps it just needs to be a much higher tax rate. Once Steinbrenner starts financing other teams' championships he'll cool his heels.

    OUCH! Compared to whom???

"Poop" is obviously a bit of Yankee baiting, but Mattingly's stature is enhanced by the fact he wore the pinstripes for his entire career. His '85 season was dominant, and he had a few other very good years, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't see him as being any more impressive than, say, Keith Hernandez or Will Clark.
