Has anyone here done successful NTC crossing?

Just curious, whether it be PCGS or NGC?
Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

Some would consider crossing an NTC 68 into a PCGS/NGC 64 to be a success. image

I just crossed an NTC 67 Walker to PCGS 64 and felt good to get it.

No, no... maybe he was talking about crossing PCGS or NGC coins to NTC! image

  • I have yet to see an NTC coin that IMO was NOT overgraded. I've also seen many NTC coins that were, IMO, coins that should not be slabbed unless a notation was made as to a specific problem (or in some instances - problems). I don't think NTC "grades" coins according to acceptable industry standards, but they DO put coins in slabs.

Oh I agree with the fact that crossing at a lower grade would be a success with a NTC coin. I'm just wanting to know if there's ever been any success involved in it. I've seen major hang ups crossing NGC to PCGS and vise versa as well so it's not rocket scientry by far. I've seen a few NTC coins that I thought would hold there own at even a point drop.
    Prost!

  • The only third world grading service I like is ICG. I think they're really trying hard to catch up with the big dogs. SEGS seems to do good sometimes, especially with error and variety attributions, but I don't think their grading is consistent enough. Everything else out there is very spotty. Keep trying, though. You know the old saying. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. They may manage to get one right once in a while.

  • My only attempt was a Lincoln 1909 VDB NTC graded MS66 RB. Cracked it and sent to ANACS and got a 64 Red. I knew it was red but I was hoping for a 65. Most of the red Lincoln and Indian heads I have seen in NTC holders look cleaned. Recently NTC is now slabbing cleaned coins and writing "cleaned" on the label. I guess that is a small step forward for them.
  • Crossed a semi-key Morgan in MS-40 to an NGC slab. No problem.

Believe it or not....I crossed an NTC 1904 $20 MS-63 to NGC MS-64. I knew it was a beauty...cracked it out first.
  • I crossed a couple of 66 quarters that came back as 65s.
When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse

  • I tried to cross an NTC Bust Dollar to an ACG. I got a body bag......

  • GAT, I am kidding big time. I would never submit to NTC or ACG no matter what. Can't stand them. They are the scourge of the hobby, imho......

Jade, I was referring to Goober for asking the question, not you. Anyone that would bid on a NTC coin on eBay needs their head examined

I handpicked the following at "Steal Me" prices...with emphasis being on "HAND-PICKED." Here's how it went.

NTC 64 1932-S Washington Quarter-$300..cracked out- now resides in a PCGS 63 holder.
NTC 65 1934 Heavy Motto-$19.99-cracked out now resides (attributed) in a PCGS 63 holder
NTC 67 1935 Wash 25c- gorgeous color- $35.00, cracked out, now resides in a PCGS 66 holder
NTC 66 1936 splash of color-$25.00 cracked out, graded PCGS 66
NTC 66 1939 Wash 25c- beautiful mint set toning, lots of color $19.99, crack out- now a PCGS 64
    NTC 67 1941-D Wash 25c-Blast White-impeccable- $19.99, crack out now a PCGS 66
    NTC 67 1941-S Wash 25-Blast White-stunning- $19.99, crack out now a PCGS 66
    *******************************************************************
Bottom line, if you can get you hands on the coin and a chance to assess it yourself,
If there is a decent return privilege....
There are some cherries to be picked but there are some dogs too. It's fair to say
that I was well pleased with the profit I madeimage

Just like boom has confessed, it can be done. There's good material residing in bad slabs, you just have to find it. I have PCGS and NGC coins that have no reason to be residing in their holders. I've never purchased NTC coins, one ACG that turned bad, but I've seen some stuff floating out there that are steals. My best looking Morgan resides in an Anacs holder that I paid -35% less than any other just because it was Anacs.

I've crossed two NTC to NGC. One went from 64 to 58 (I expected 62). One 66 to 66 (mercury, hard to miss those).

No, that's TruGrade. Though I don't hear about them much anymore.
