Do you think that Carson City Twenties are common?

It seems like just a few yrs ago you could have bought dozens of coins that for 20 to 30% cheaper than they are today, but yet when you look around the supply seems to have dried up...or am I wrong on this?

The 76 sure isn't, but the 75 is a "common" coin on the URS

Depends on the date. I just bought a "run" of them, mostly in AU.

I like this series a lot.

I am not an expert on CC $20 Libs, however my impression is that most of them (even mint state coins) are typically heavily bagmarked with low eye appeal.

It is my belief that choice AU or mint state coins with minimal contact marks and high luster are uncommon to scarce... I only own one nice one as a Type 3 CC $20 Lib (see below)...

I may also try to pick up another PCGS AU-58 1875-CC as a companion Type 2 example...

I think that the common dates (74-76, 83-84, 89, 90) are common and the scarce dates are scarce (very profound, eh?). But seriously, I also noted a spike in prices for the common dates and scarce dates, but only in the last few months. I do not know what is behind this, but I have always liked CC gold, but I like the eagles best because of their overall rarity. (I nice collection just sold at ANR for strong money.) Unfortunately, try as I may, I cannot collect everything. image

Nice coin, Stuart! This is (presently) my only CC $20, an 1890-CC $20 NGC MS-62:

I would also like to get a Type 2 CC $20 to complete the four coin gold CC type set.

If the coins were common a few years ago, they're still common. But I agree with Seth's assessment of the market.

  • Tom, Whats the status on the "run" of $20 CC's you bought? I didn't see any offered on your website. Anything available? Thanks, CCG

Sold 75% of them. Am shipping the rest on monday. I just don't have time to put most coins on the website. I'm not a website guy. The website is mostly for information purposes and lead generation quite frankly.

First, it depends on the condition... then, look for originality... because so many have been enhanced and played with to get them in higher grade plastic, several dates are not as easy to get as one might think. As sad as that sounds, it is the truth.
