world type set...

Hello darksiders...

by the way, is it good, bad, neutral for world coin collectors to be called darksiders..?

anyway, back to my reason for posting. I have started a set of one coin from every country in the world. (would world type set be the name?) Just wondering if anyone else out there has done this and how they are presenting/storing there set. The easiet is 2x2's in the vinyl pages, just wondering what other people are doing.

thanks,
gus

Darkside is good, Lightside is bad, now-repeat after me, Darkside good, Lightside bad. Of course I mean that only in the friendliest way...image

Darkside=World coins, Lightside= US coins, Greyside=Canadian coins. World Type Set works as well as any other phrase.

Your question is one many of us have asked since we joined this forum. Some call us One From Every Country or OFEC'ers.
There are many ways to store your coins and after months of searching I finally settled on the tried but true 2 x 2 + vinyl pages. Some special stuff goes into airtites and flat, rectangular glass topped displays that measure about 18 x 12x 1/2 that I found in a flea market.

OFEC became many from every country from several centuries, at least for me...

    Welcome, InfiniteZero!!

Actually, lingo like Dark Side, Greyside, and what not is strictly a CU forum phenomenon, although it has migrated into the NGC forums (and probably a few others). When the CU forums started, all but an intrepid few of us numismatists knew anything other than US coins -- hence the Dark Side, terra incognita to the "Litesiders". The Dark Side includes world coins, ancients, US & world currency, medals, etc. ... anything numismatic that isn't US coins. image

"OFEC" is a popular way to get started in world coin collecting. It's a great introductory education with many "branch-offs" wherever you feel tempted. A "world type set", even if only 20th century, would be a daunting task. We always recommend you acquire a new or used copy of the Modern Issues volume of Krause Publishing's Standard Catalog of World Coins -- or browse through a copy at your local library. That volume covers from 1901 to date and there are volumes for the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries as well.
