Post season all-time Records

The expansion to a third round of playoff games means several more opportunities for players to accumulate totals towards post-season records.

Should records be kept for any of the post season playoff games besides the World Series?

Mickey Mantle's 18 home runs or Christy Mathewson's 10 complete games will probably last a LONG time considering they were all accomplished during World Series games and not division playoffs, etc. Yogi Berra's 75 World Series games played will last for possibly 100 years or more, just take a look at who's behind him and that no one else currently playing is on the top ten list, plus he set it over 40 years ago and counting.

Single game records such as Bob Gibson's 17 strikeouts in a game is an example of a record that could last several more years if only World Series games were considered.

Just wondering what everyone thinks about this...next we can go into the watering down of records or ....

  • The only records that matter (to me) are World Series records.

League divisional series started in 1969 (I think); which make those records equivilent to Super Bowl records.

Any record labeled "post season" is worthless.
