After being forced to sell my Number One Registry set back in 2001 I began the quest of rebuilding. In 2003 I was about 78% complete on rebuilding the set and I was once again forced to sell my set. Well, here it is 2004 and I have just today reached 100% on my 3rd attempt at building the complete set. It will take forever to upgrade to reach anywhere near the top again, but I am still trying.

These sets are a lot harder to build than most people realize.

Nice job Mike, maybe you can go get us some fresh venison like last year now that you have completed it? i still have the box from last year, when and if.
let's break top 10 by the end of the year!
That is just amazing. I am in awe! Congrats!!!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Amazingly enough it is the coins you least expect are the hardest to find, raw or already slabbed, that are the most difficult.
There are about 16 very common coins (by year or mint) that are extremely tough. Mainly because the mint did such a poor job of making dies and striking crummy cents with the crummy dies, that these are the hardest to find in anything above MS62 grade.
I found it to be of tremendous fun and satisfaction to get most of my own pennies slabbed myself. It was a lot easier than getting
caught up in a bidding or buying war with others wanting the same coin.
At around 80% or so completion you sort of hit the wall, so to speak.

<< <i>Rolls are still available for many of those, though, so you might still be able to make your own top pops using those or mint sets >>
Rolls aren't so easy to find at all! And mint sets are often no good. But as always it is more fun to find your own coins than buy them! ms66's should be possible. 73-s and 74-s have elluded me in ms66 but many others have found them. I've found all the other S's in ms66 and my 68-s and 70-s are likely ms67. For me the hardest dates are 61-d,63-d (I got lucky and got a nice 62-d!) and then 71-d,72-d,73-d,73-s. Some of the late 70's are way tough too.
Then I sold my set for what was said to be more money than it was worth, and people took notice. The Lincoln collectors began showing much more interest in the Memorial's and decided they should collect them along with the Wheats. BOOM, the demand went up. The price went up and the competition went crazy. Now my original set which was graded 67.99 would not even be near the top as the new collectors have blown the roof off this collection. Also, without the help of Mark (Datentype) and Mitch (Wondercoin) I would have NEVER been able to build the set the first time and I owe a huge THANK YOU to both guys. I also need to Thank Vinnie but he quit where he was working and hooking me up with low pop coins and moved and I lost contact with him.
I have been unemployed since May of last year and so the fact that I managed to complete another set to 100% is truly a big accomplishment for me. I have been selling "STUFF" that I have collected, like Hot Wheels and Action figures and of course, car parts, on Ebay and that is how I funded living and collecting. I am running out of crap to sell, so the fact that I have completed the set makes me very happy. Upgrades will be very slow coming, but I plan on trying to regain #1 status one day. I t is a long way to the top from here but once you stand on the top, it is hard to not want to watch the sunrise from there.
