Stuck at work without my catalogs-is this E-Bay German 3 mark piece worthwhile at the price?

With shipping, it'll be just a hair over EF catalog value. Looks fair to me.

Looks to be hairlined, most obviously below the "30" in the date running southwest to northeast.

    I'd pass.

Thanks JamminJ-that may be enough to keep me off that coin. Hairlines didn't bother me when I started collecting but they bother me now.

I agree with your sentiment - cleaned coins didn't bother me either until I learned to recognize them.image

I would've said it's worth a shot. Bet the luster looks better in person than in the pictures.

Now that it is cheaper I may go after it. I really like the stylized eagle.

    Well, I didn't bid, I bin'd.
    Yeah, I know I sinned.
    JamminJ warned me fine,
    said watchout for the hairline.
    So, I takes my chance,
    and I advance,
and If I need to return
    Germancoin won't spurn.
    I heard they're fair,
    honorable, beyond compare.

You'll probably like it, if the hairlines JamminJ noted aren't too obvious. I honestly didn't see them in the picture until they were pointed out.

Ron Guth is a straight up guy. I think the coin will be fine.

That's what I've heard, many times; simply hadn't purchased from him yet.

Ron is great!! (BTW, he's the one who wrote Coin Collecting for Dummies and runs CoinFacts!) He grades accurately, but he does like to get German domestic market prices for his wares.

Immortalized in darkside poetry - I'm very flattered!
Hope it looks good in hand.
