After FINISHING....COMPLETING.....your date set which would you rather have, the set or ONE coin that the value of the set would pay for?

Curiosity.

haven't got that far, but will probably lean toward collecting nice individual coins.

  • Upgrade the date set AND branch off into other areas/series.
  • What I did do was start a type set...

    I've done both.

My Seated Dime date set probably doesn't have a more than a handful of coins still in it from when I first finished it and there are 120+ coins in that set! Other sets I've sold after completing, after a while (doing so now, as a matter of fact). IN both cases, I've gone on to other series or sets.

Started working on a type set, but still occasionally upgrading pieces in the date set with coins of better eye appeal and/or higher grade.

I continued working on the set...just because I finished a date run doesn't mean that I have all 450 capped bust half varieties.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
  • Sold the set and bought 13 high-end examples. But now I'm just buying it back in lower grade.

If I had worked hard on a date set (or type set, or date/mm series) I'd continue to upgrade it's "weakest links" provided I still liked the coins

If I had lost interest in the coins, I'd sell 'em off and start something else (hasn't happened yet)

  • Never seem to be satisfied with some of the coins to my date set. One date I've purchased five different coins.

The longer I'am into collecting the more knowledge I aquire the better coins I try to collect. I dont know if I will

    ever complete the series. Bob
