Geez... Look what this guy just paid for these coins...

Then look at his feedback(s) and see what unusual. I can't believe that this bidder has only bid and won from this seller. Either somethings up or he thinks he's getting the "best deal" on Ebay.....

Ah, yes, the Treasurer of Pennsylvania. They use multiple shills in their auctions. Texas followed their lead and is now doing the same thing.

    Russ,
I can understand the shill bidding, but what good does it do when the shill wins?
    What are the coins actually worth? $12x2 + $10 x 3 = $54 bucks?
I'd be happy selling them for the auction ending price.

At least the Texas model results in lower prices versus, say, Massachusetts.image

Sometimes shills win because they misjudge the bidding action and accidentally bid too high. If you check this seller's auction history you'll find tons of very low feedback bidders that bid repeatedly in their auctions. You'll also find that they consistently get prices stupidly higher than actual market values.

    Russ,
Are you serious? You really believe the State is using a shill?

Multiple shills. I've been watching their auctions for over a year, ever since I saw a 1964 proof set go for nearly $50 with a bid history full of bidders with less than five feedbacks.

I reported them, including a half dozen bid histories from people that have little or no feedback, have been registered in some cases for two years, and bid nearly excusively in their auctions. eBay's response was that they "didn't have enough evidence".

Like Russ I've watched the PA auctions and have seen many shill bids placed.I don't believe Ebay will ever do anything about it.JMHO

  • Crazy!!!
  • Why is it that even though he has 51 positive feedbacks, it only shows as "1"? Do multiple feedbacks from one seller only count one time?

Yes. It keeps dishonest people from running up their feedback for each other.

Exactly. Unclaimed property isn't soley jewelry and coins. Something is fishy
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.
  • Yes the State Treasury Sale for the state of Pennsylvania was legitimate two years ago anyway. I purchased a GSA 1882-CC dollar in the original packaging from a scan of Ebay. The coin came back as a 64 from NGC which I paid 160.00 at the time. Have since sold for $300.00.

This whole concept of a bank sending the contents of dormant safe deposit boxes to the state and then turn around and have a "certified appraiser" swear that this is indeed a coin or necklace, and then have the state sell the items on ebay REALLY BOTHERS ME. The shill bidding which appears to be rampant is just plain WRONG.image
